Secure PDF Redaction Online

Permanently remove sensitive text and data from PDFs. Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.

🔒 Files stay on your device ⚡ Instant processing 🆓 Free to use

Redaction is only real if the hidden data is actually gone — not just covered with a black box that can be copied out from underneath. SecurePDFSuite permanently destroys the text you redact, and it does it entirely inside your browser, so a document full of names, account numbers, or case details is never uploaded to sanitize it. What you take out stays out.

How to securely redact a PDF

  1. Upload your PDF Select the PDF containing content you want to permanently remove.
  2. Specify what to redact Enter the text strings to redact — names, account numbers, phone numbers, or any sensitive content.
  3. Apply redaction locally Click Redact — matching text is permanently blackened and the underlying data is destroyed, not just hidden.
  4. Download the sanitized PDF Save the redacted PDF. The removed content is gone — it cannot be revealed by selecting or copying text.

What people redact

Redaction matters most whenever a document has to be shared but some of what's in it must not be. Common examples:

Why redact in your browser instead of uploading

Here's the trap with many "redaction" tools: some only draw a black rectangle over the text, leaving the real words sitting underneath where anyone can select, copy, or search them out. And nearly all cloud tools require you to upload the full, un-redacted document — the most sensitive version of it — to their servers first.

SecurePDFSuite does both parts properly. The redaction destroys the underlying text data rather than covering it, and the whole operation runs locally with WebAssembly inside your browser tab. The document never leaves your device, so you're not exposing the exact information you're trying to remove.

For SSNs, legal data, medical records, and financials, that combination — truly removed, and never uploaded — is what redaction is supposed to mean.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the redacted content truly removed or just visually hidden?
It is truly removed. SecurePDFSuite's redaction destroys the underlying text data — it does not just draw a black box over it. The content cannot be revealed by copy-paste, search, or accessibility tools.
Can I redact images or just text?
The current tool targets text content. Image-based PDFs (scanned documents) need OCR first, to turn the picture of text into real selectable text — otherwise there is nothing for a redaction to remove, and a black box over a scan is only a box. OCR needs more processing than a browser tab can do, so that step happens in our sister app: PDF Cubby will OCR the scan, and you can redact it there in the same pass.
Why should I use local redaction instead of a cloud tool?
Cloud-based redaction tools upload your document to external servers — putting sensitive content (SSNs, legal data, financials) at risk. SecurePDFSuite never uploads anything. Your data stays on your device.
Can the redacted text ever be recovered?
No. Because the underlying text is deleted from the file rather than hidden behind a shape, there's nothing left to recover — no amount of copying, searching, or reopening the file will bring it back.
Isn't drawing a black box over text the same as redacting?
No, and this is a common and costly mistake. A black box added as a shape leaves the original text intact underneath, where it can be selected or extracted. True redaction — what this tool does — removes the text itself, so nothing survives beneath the mark.
Is my document uploaded anywhere to redact it?
No. The entire redaction runs in your browser's local memory. The un-redacted document — the most sensitive version of it — never leaves your device or reaches a server.
Is the redaction tool free?
Secure Redact is completely free and unlimited, with no account required.
